Are you ready for the return of Sherlock?

Sherlock logoIt has been nearly two years since season two of Sherlock concluded with the detective apparently leaping from the roof of Barts Hospital. In two days’ time we’ll discover exactly how he eluded death and what both he and John Watson have been up to during the intervening time.

In the meantime, these five videos should help get you back up to speed.

In The Reichenbach Fall, Moriarty successfully painted Sherlock as a fraud and a con artist. Here’s a mock news report of how BBC News reported his demise.

Released a month ago, this 30-second trailer shows Watson sporting a moustache – well, it was Movember at the time – and Sherlock’s return being announced via social media, using (among others) the hashtag #SherlockLives.

This was followed by a longer 60-second trailer showing more footage from the opening episode.

On Christmas Eve, the BBC released a seven-minute minisode titled Many Happy Returns, shedding some light on what has been happening in the time since Sherlock’s ‘death’.

And finally, here’s a short video including Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss talking about what we can expect not just from the first episode The Empty Hearse but from season three as a whole.

Sherlock returns to BBC1 on Wednesday 1st January at 9pm. Episode two airs on Sunday 5th at 8:30pm.
