The Musketeers are back for a second season of leather-clad adventures, with Peter Capaldi’s Cardinal Richelieu replaced by Marc Warren’s Comte de Rochefort.

  1. Decent opener but nothing special. Warren was rather pantomime and I really missed Capaldi’s more nuanced villain. The chasm sequence was fun though and I rather like Lucie de Foix!

    • For sure, Rochefort/Warren is less subtle than Richelieu/Capaldi, but I think he’s meant to be that way deliberately (at least he doesn’t twirl his moustache …) I like the potential for him to be more hands-on in the action, and no doubt we’ll see more layers as the weeks progress.

      I wonder whether we’ll see Lucie De Foix again – she’s certainly been set up as a potential love interest for D’Artagnan, or at the very least top help drive a temporary wedge between him and Constance.
