The Musketeers returns to BBC1 for its second season this evening. Expect more light-hearted historical action, tight bodices and dashing heroes in leather.

It’s a shame Capaldi couldn’t have filmed a few inserts as his Cardinal was the highlight last year. Looking forward to more derring-do and unrequited love!
Tonight’s episode is a cracking start. To be honest, I’m okay with the show making a clean break with Richelieu, so that we can focus on getting up to speed with Rochefort. And whereas Richelieu was a slow burn last season, Rochefort’s right in the middle of events from the off. As I’ve said elsewhere, I think the show is better off without Richelieu even though it means losing Capaldi. Rochefort is cunning, but he’s also a man of action.
